Arkia

Arkia announces plans to increase flights to Eilat and calls for equitable terminal operations at Ben Gurion Airport to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

Israeli airline Arkia has unveiled plans to expand its flight services to Eilat, aiming to address the current shortage of flights to Israel’s southernmost city. This initiative follows discussions between Arkia CEO Oz Berlovitz, Transportation Minister Miri Regev, and Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri, focusing on improving connectivity and supporting local tourism. The Jerusalem Post

In addition to increasing flight frequency, Arkia is advocating for equal treatment of Israeli airlines regarding terminal operations at Ben Gurion Airport. The airline currently operates from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, leading to operational inefficiencies and increased costs. Berlovitz highlighted that foreign low-cost carriers benefit from operating exclusively out of Terminal 1, which offers lower operational expenses. He emphasized the need for Israeli airlines to have similar access to reduce costs and enhance competitiveness. The Jerusalem Post

The reopening of Terminal 1, which had been closed due to the recent conflict and a decline in passenger traffic, is set to facilitate these additional flights. Domestic flights resumed on May 27, 2024, with international flights following on June 2, 2024. This development is expected to alleviate congestion at Terminal 3 and provide more streamlined services for passengers. ynetnews+1JFeed+1All Israel News
